Trauma Training Days at Oakfield

Investing in Our Team, Investing in Our Young People.

At Oakfield, we believe that the best outcomes for the young people in our care are built on strong, knowledgeable, and confident teams. That’s why we continue to invest in specialist training for our staff, ensuring they feel supported and equipped to deliver truly therapeutic care.

This month, our staff came together once again for Trauma Training Days led by our Clinical Lead, Consultant Clinical Psychologist Dr Rosey. These sessions form part of our ongoing commitment to embedding a trauma-informed approach across all our homes.

The training explored:

  • Understanding the impact of trauma on child development, attachment, and behaviour

  • Practical strategies to provide stability, safety, and consistency in day-to-day practice

  • The importance of reflective practice and resilience for staff working in challenging environments

  • Real-world case discussions to strengthen confidence in therapeutic decision-making

The sessions were interactive, collaborative, and full of rich discussion — with our staff sharing experiences, supporting one another, and deepening their knowledge together.

As one staff member commented:

“The training really helps me understand not just what behaviours mean, but why they happen. It gives me tools to respond in ways that help our young people feel safe and supported.”

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and commitment our staff bring to these days.

Training is not just about compliance — it’s about culture. By learning together, reflecting together, and supporting each other, we continue to build homes that are safe, nurturing, and truly therapeutic.

A huge thank you to Dr Rosey for delivering such insightful and practical training, and to our staff for their dedication to the young people we care for.

At Oakfield, trauma-informed care isn’t a one-off — it’s a journey we are committed to walking together, every day.
